Space maintainers are custom made for your child’s mouth. They are discreet in appearance. Most kids easily adjust to them after a few days. Space maintainers hold the empty space left by the early loss of a tooth. Space maintainers prevent drifting of adjacent teeth until the un-erupted permanent tooth naturally erupts into position. If drifting occurs, permanent teeth may become impacted or erupt in poor alignment. Proper instructions will be provided to you and your child on the proper maintenance of the space maintainer appliance.

Interceptive orthodontic treatment may reduce or eliminate the need for more in-depth and expensive orthodontic care in the future. A few common interceptive orthodontic appliances are listed below. Patients and parents will be provided with further instructions will be provided as necessary. As always, we will be glad to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child’s treatment.

Rapid Palatal Expander:
Creates arch length. This appliance is adjusted daily by patient/parent. They turn the jack screw with a “key” to achieve the desired width.
Quad Helix:
Maxillary expansion appliance. Allows for anterior and posterior expansions.
Halterman Appliance:
Used to help guide the eruption of a permanent molar into a corrected position.
